Experience

Rachel Pelletier is a Junior Researcher with the Negotiation Team at The Firelight Group. She completed her M.Sc. in Indigenous Law and Territorial Governance in partnership with the Anishnabe Nation of Lac Simon, focusing on the impact of Quebec's wildlife management policies and Western conservation approaches on traditional hunting. She has long been interested in the study of socio-ecological systems and the impacts of conflicts over the management of natural resources on land and people.  Prior to joining Firelight, Rachel served as an environmental analyst for the Simo Sagainiwininik (people of the Anishnabe Nation of Lac Simon) and conducted research on urban Indigenous issues and community justice.

Rachel was born and raised in the Tiohtià:ke area (now known as Montreal). She currently resides in Val-d'Or on Anicinape Aki/Nitakinan, the unceded traditional land of the Anishnabe Nation. Apart from work, Rachel enjoys forest walks, berry picking, canoeing rivers, and delving into the history of cultural landscapes.
